Bringing the magic of music to all ages and locations
Artistic Director Andrew Armstrong is an energetic advocate of bringing the joy of listening and loving great music to seniors, teens and young children who might not have access to our concerts. Expanding Outreach Programs is a top priority for New Canaan Chamber Music.
Andrew and visiting world famous musicians take time, in addition to concerts, to visit local schools, youth orchestras, and senior communities. They not only perform but also have a chance to share stories and feelings about the music they play. “Everyone had such a warm and emotional time with Andrew and the wonderful musicians who came with him,” reported the director of a senior living residence.
Another part of New Canaan Chamber Music Outreach is the annual Children and Families Concert on May 5 at 3 pm at the New Canaan Library. Andrew guides the young listeners with fun commentary and opens new pathways to learning and imagination. In a recent concert, for example, he told the children, “If the music makes you want to dance, please get up and dance!”
Outreach will continue to be a fundamental part of New Canaan Chamber Music. Andrew and the Board of Directors are exploring new ways, not just more of the same, to grow and reach more and more people in the area.
‘The music is precious and magic,” said Board Chair Tom Butterworth. “ It’s only right to share it.”
