Elizabeth Koch Tiscione has established a distinguished career as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber artist, and educator. Admired for the warmth and beauty of her sound and the expressive depth of her performances, she has served as Principal Oboe of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 2007. Appointed to the position at the age of twenty-one, she became one of the youngest musicians ever to hold a principal wind position in a major American orchestra. Over nearly two decades, she has remained a defining musical voice of the ensemble while maintaining an active international career as a guest principal oboist, soloist, chamber musician, and teacher.In addition to her position with the Atlanta Symphony, Ms. Tiscione serves as Principal Oboe of the Grand Teton Music Festival, Strings Music Festival, and Festival Mozaic, and is a member of the Atlanta Chamber Players. She has appeared as guest principal oboist with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.As a soloist, Ms. Tiscione has appeared with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. She has been featured on NPR’s From the Top and has collaborated with distinguished artists at chamber music festivals throughout North America. Critics have praised her performances for their expressive depth, tonal richness, and technical command, noting her distinctive voice as both a soloist and orchestral musician.Equally dedicated to teaching, Ms. Tiscione has served on the faculty of Kennesaw State University and has taught at the Aspen Music Festival and School and the Curtis Institute of Music. Her former students have gone on to successful careers as music educators, as well as in professional orchestras, military bands, graduate programs, and conservatories across the United States.A graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Curtis Institute of Music, Ms. Tiscione studied with Marc Dubois, Daniel Stolper, Richard Woodhams, and Robert Walters, whose mentorship shaped her artistic voice and lifelong approach to performance.Elizabeth lives in Atlanta with her husband, acclaimed trumpeter Michael Tiscione, and their two children, Elio and Gaia. Outside the concert hall, she enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, practicing yoga, and sharing music with her family.
